Riser Designs:

Mentor Subsea Technology Services has the systems, procedures and methodology to perform turnkey riser design, fabrication and installation projects. The heart of the design analysis system utilizes the highly acclaimed non-linear dynamic analysis software package "ABAQUS". Pre and post processors are used to generate analysis models and perform design calculations. This has allowed us to do most realistic modeling and "up-to-date" analyses (Vortex Induced Vibration, soil structure interaction and buckling) that is feasible to date, which are beyond the reach of most riser analyses software available.

  • Steel Catenary Risers (SCRs)

    During the past two projects (Morpeth and Allegheny), Mentor Subsea has designed and installed more dynamic SCRs than the rest of the industry altogether. Some of the "Industry First" achievements are shallow water (1570 feet) deployment of SCRs, use of stress joint and "S" lay of SCRs, which has opened the door for reeling of SCRs. These achievements were made possible by the ABAQUS based advanced riser design system and procedure.

  • Flexible Risers

    Mentor has been involved in several projects and gained valuable experience in global design and installation of flexible risers. Providing the most "up-to-date" design tools, Mentor is in a position to develop the most cost effective riser solutions for fields in a wide range of water depths.

  • Surface Tensioned Risers
    Vertically straight risers supported by several buoyancy modules (air can) at the top of the riser used so far in Spar platforms. Mentor and J. Ray McDermott are the only contractors who possess the detail design and installation experience to provide this service.

  • Hybrid Risers
    Mentor was involved in the screening and conceptual study of feasibility by using hybrid risers for a recent project. Until now, the hybrid riser system has been more expensive, and therefore, only selected when no other riser solution is workable. In-house study project work has shown that a hybrid riser system can be designed at a substantially lower cost. An innovative concept project is currently under consideration for 6,000 - 8,000 feet water depth.
